The Tour de France is the most famous cycling event in the world. Running since 1903, the Tour now attracts over two billion television viewers worldwide and over 15 million roadside spectators. Every year, the Tour inspires millions of people to get on their bikes, and this year, it's coming to London.

The Tour has visited the UK twice before but this is the first time ever that the world's greatest cycling race is to be launched from London. The event will be a huge boost for the image of cycling in London. Mayor Ken Livingstone says “Hosting the first stage of the legendary French cycle race will raise the profile of cycling in the capital, attract visitors and promote the capital as a venue for international sporting events."
