Showers, lockers and drying room

If you can afford it, a shower room will be a great help to any cyclists coming a distance, especially if you can provide towels and hairdryers. If that’s a bit too expensive, or if you don’t have much space, perhaps you could arrange a deal with a local gym to let staff use their facilities. A recent survey by clothing company Rohan found that 90% of people polled said they would consider cycling to work if they could freshen up before getting to their desks. The Take a Stand scheme (see Grants and Tax Allowances) can provide match funding of up to £1000 for facilities such as showers.

Drying room/lockers

If showers aren’t possible, a place for cyclists to get changed, hang clothes and freshen up can be a good compromise. Lockers for users to store items such as helmets, jackets and panniers away from the main working area can be useful too.
