LCC pushes 20mph speed limits high up political agenda

Over a decade of campaigning by LCC has helped push 20mph speed limits firmly on to the political agenda.

20mph zones now exists in boroughs all over London, and eight boroughs have announced their wish to make all residential streets 20mph-safe, with Islington already implementing the measure.

The UK government has also made 20mph limits part of its strategy for a reduction in road deaths by a third before 2020..

Activism from local groups such as Merton Cycling Campaign (see the link below) has repeatedly highlighted the terrible, and avoidable, loss of life caused by fast-moving traffic in residential areas.
